Mr Munasinghe is a Consultant General Laparoscopic Surgeon, with a special interest in Upper Gastrointestinal and Weight Loss Surgery. He has an NHS base at Bedfordshire Hospitals, where he is the Clinical Lead for Safety and Clinical Governance, and the welfare of his patients is at the heart of all of his practice. He offers a large range of common general surgical procedures, performed through a keyhole route wherever possible to minimise pain and enable a faster recovery. His main areas of interest are in the treatment of obesity, reflux disease, gallstones and hernia, and he is happy to see patients of varying complexity, for both primary and revision (redo) procedures.
He is a recognised national expert and trainer in all aspects of obesity surgery and hernia surgery, and runs courses to teach junior surgeons to perform these complex procedures.

Mr Munasinghe undertook a dedicated research placement at Imperial College London and currently serves as the Clinical Lead for Safety and Clinical Governance at Bedfordshire Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust. He has conducted significant clinical research in the fields of bariatric surgery, minimally invasive techniques and surgical outcomes. He also cofounded the first emergency bariatric surgery database (NEBSA) in the UK. Reflecting his leadership in the academic and professional medical community, Mr Munasinghe was elected as the Chair of the National Bariatric Surgery Registry (NBSR) Committee for the British Obesity & Metabolic Specialist Society in 2026.
